Sweet Movember

Sweet Movember

Movember = MO (Eng. slang mustache) + November – is an annual, month-long event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November.
Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has run Movember events to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression. This an annual event has found a regular support in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, England, Czech Republic, Spain, Britain, Israel, South Africa and the United States. Movember started in Australia in 2003.

My friend Allie Astell, who lives in Bath (England), helped me to make this post and sent me the photos. Due to her work assisting her client Captain Fawcett’s Moustache Wax with his marketing, Allie is now fully immersed in this crazy but amazing world, where she met a lot of charismatic and creative people. As Allie said : “I don’t think facial hair has ever been so well-publicised and popular as it is right now.”
It’s not only men who admire each other’s moustache and beard growth – there are thousands of women who love it too, and they’re known as “Whiskerinas”. These fantastic ladies hold their own competitions and have their own Facebook pages to share photographs of themselves wearing fake facial hair, but managing to look sexy at the same time.

The end of Movember is marked across the United Kingdom (and around the world) with a series of Gala Parties. These are held to thank Mo Bros and Mo Sistas for helping to raise awareness and funds for men’s health.

Allie sent me some pictures, which she captured at the different mo events. In the first picture you can see Allie’s friends Ali Rogers and Mark Sowerby. It’s so funny! This moustache costume was designed by Ali, who also has a love of facial hair. Ali enjoys making costumes for fancy dress parties and she is very creative. When Allie organised a party with a moustache theme recently (last weekend) , her friend made the moustache costume, which was admired by everyone who saw it. They all took it in turns to wear it, and lots of photographs were taken that night.

Moustaches are one of the hottest trends for this November!
